The Aberdare and Lidcombe Shields are unofficial rugby league trophies. The concept is that it is a Title Holders Shield, similar to a Boxing World Title or the Ranfurly Shield in New Zealand, and the also unofficial rugby union Raeburn and Utrecht Shield concepts.
The Aberdare Shield is named after Aberdare Athletic Ground in Wales (UK), the site of the first ever men’s international between Wales and New Zealand, on 1 January 1908.
